How My Belief in Reincarnation Impacted My Life

"The reason I titled this talk, 'How my belief in reincarnation impacted my life' instead of 'How reincarnation impacted my life', is because it’s not the actual thing but one’s attitudes, which is the effect. Whether the concept is fact or fiction doesn’t matter.
I told a friend I was giving a talk and upon telling him the topic, he laughed. I asked him, "If I had said my topic was ‘How my belief in Christianity has impacted my life’, would you have laughed at me?” And he didn’t say a word. Couldn’t. Why should those who embrace a concept that does not follow dogmatic belief evoke uncomfortable derision? Other cultures, other religions embrace reincarnation as a fact of life: Hinduism, Buddhism, North American Indians, Jewish Kabbalistic teachings and early Christians. We in North America are a minority even though it has been found that one-quarter of Americans and one-third of Canadians believe in this concept.
My belief has given me a moral compass. My decisions are my decisions, my life not ruled by fate and the consensus of others. My belief grounds me. They say that, ‘Believing is only the beginning of who you are.’ This is certainly true for me because my belief has led me solidly along the path of self-actualization."
