Riding the Devil's Nose
... memoirs of a time traveler

The Devil’s Nose or El Nariz de Diablo is a razorback train ride starting from and ending in the Andean town of Riobamba, Ecuador in South America. It is perilous, exhausting and exciting, very much like the journey of life and the exploration of past lives. These journeys through time and place define who we are, who we were and who we will become.

This is the revised, updated and renamed version of To the Moon and Back: journey of the soul. Many of my readers have written to me and asked for more information, more of my thoughts and ideas about reincarnation and my philosophy in relation to that concept so I decided to ‘flesh out’ my story and re-create a fresher manuscript. The new title reflects that as well as additional thoughts and ideas of our travels. I’ve found that the more time passes, the more I remember about our South American journey and the better perspective I’ve obtained. Hopefully my journeys through time and place will give others the perspective they need for their own personal odyssey.

About the Book:

My heart pounds as the bus screeches around hairpin turns high up in the Andean Mountains of South America. Will we make it to the next village or will one wrong slip of the wheel send us plummeting down the steep granite abyss into oblivion? Why oh why did I let my partner talk me into this trip? What kind of idiot was I to get sucked in by his misguided sense of adventure? To spend four long months in Peru and Ecuador, travelling by bus and staying in hostels and pretend I’m actually enjoying this whole experience? All I really wanted was to visit Machu Picchu and go home.

Memories flood my mind. Memories of childhood, memories of past lives. Long before the trip, needing to heal a chronic skin condition, I’d visited a well-known hypnotherapist in Vancouver. She led me back, back to a lifetime in England before the First World War. Spoiled and rich, I was despoiled by my cruel, controlling father after he discovered me with my lower class lover. She also led me back to my birth then later to the moment I ‘took on’ my skin ailment in order to punish the person I held responsible – my mother.

I learned to lead others beyond the womb so that they, too, could heal their lives. I taught my son the art of regression and he led me back to many lives. As a nun in Italy, a Cathar father and husband, a new arrival to Earth, a French courtesan and an Appalachian native woman searching for her warrior soulmate. In most of those incarnations I discover a common element: my present partner and fellow traveler, Gil.
